Maybe this decision was made to push the iOS calculator shortcut found via Control Center? Thomson says his revised widget would allow users to ‘enter a formula’ but not actually use it as a calculator. Sorry if I can’t reply to everybody tonight. I’m not angry, I’m just really really sad. I would be allowed to make a widget that let you to “enter a formula” but it couldn’t perform the calculation in the widget.Īnd yes, Apple is currently featuring PCalc in the “Great apps for iOS 8” section, under Notification Center widgets. I spent a really long time working on the PCalc widgets and making them perfect, so this is pretty crushing news. I’ve basically got 2-3 weeks to remove it, barring a miracle. I’m going to try to escalate the decision, but it sounds like it was made high up and won’t be changed. Needless to say, this is extremely disappointing news, and I am very sorry for all PCalc users, including me, who love the feature. You should definitely check out that app and leave this one in the dust.PCalc developer James Thomson from Glasgow, Scotland, took to Twitter this morning to announce his popular app’s iOS 8 widget will no longer be allowed, as Apple has told him to remove it in the next 2-3 weeks:Īpple has told me that Notification Center widgets on iOS cannot perform any calculations, and the current PCalc widget must be removed.Īfter sharing this news, Thomson explained more on Twitter, saying the news is “extremely disappointing” and that he’s not angry, just sad, since he spent a lot of time working on PCalc’s widgets: Personally, Solve is my go-to calculator app. Many other better calculator apps out there.

all I know is you should save your money ok this one folks. Maybe laziness? Maybe someone got fired during development? Who knows.

this calculator could be so much BETTER but it’s almost like the developers only did half their jobs on this one. This causes a situation where clearing works consistently only half of the time. Do you need to hold the button for 2 seconds? 5 seconds? Who knows. the problem is that the app gives you no indication that the calculation has actually been cleared until you lift your finger off the button. I can totally understand the whole holding down the backspace button to clear. really!? Also, there seems to be no other way to clear a calculation other than holding down the backspace button for an indeterminate amount of time. why does a calculator have a 15 second loading time.

The interface is beautiful and functional however, that is where the positivity towards this app stops. I gave it more than a fair shot and it let me down. Have all of your results rounded to two decimal places.īeautiful custom animations and sound effects provide positive feedback and an enjoyable experience while performing calculations.
